In China, many highly educated people actually have very low cognitive abilities, because they perfectly fit the education system’s standard of high scores and low competence. The education system focuses more on the transmission of knowledge, while deliberately neglecting the cultivation of cognitive abilities, even destroying such abilities. The essence of knowledge is the accumulation of information, which can be gradually increased through continuous learning; whereas cognition is a higher-level ability, manifested as insight—that is, the ability to see through phenomena to the essence, engage in deep thinking, and grasp the underlying logic of things. Those comments or predictions in some public domains may seem well-reasoned, yet they often diverge greatly from actual developments, even misleading others.
